Sick 66 2026 - Day 1

Sick the Magazine is hosting their second Sick 66 and it’s a good one.

I made the trip to Mo-Kan Dragway yesterday to see the cars and people of the second running of Sick 66. With a planned trip along Route 66, the cars that attended were ready for the track and the Mother Road as the 100th Anniversary moves into the final months. 186 racers took to Mo-Kan Dragway after a morning of rainfall. Many racers were worried they would cancel racing for the day, but Mo-Kan worked their butts off drying the track and staging lanes to give the racers a chance at the track.

The reflection photos from photographers like Jonny Allen, Tim Gourley (Go Fast Photography) and MElissa Morrow (Morrow Photography) will be amazing once they publish. Below is my attempt at one of these iconic shots as this racer prepared his Foxbody Mustang for the track.

Gassers are a fan favorite and Sick the Magazine leans into this for these one-off events. They held a special invite to gassers from across the country and 26 cars showed up to show out. With big blowers, hiked front ends, and handpainted lettering, these cars made the pits feel like we were transported back to the 60s.

Mo-Kan Dragway did an incredible job of prepping the track and cars were flying. Lamar Swindoll Jr went 4.87 in his nitrous powered Chevy II. A slew of 5 Second 1/8 mile passes followed him with the majority of racers running mid to high 6s and low 7s.

Congratulations to Danny and Barbie Grubaugh on their wedding at the Starting Line during the driver meeting of the event. Danny is a staple in the drag and drive community and Barbie is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. We wish the new #powercouple the best as they begin their life together, surrounded by #racecarfriends and family during Sick 66.

September 29 - Day Three, Midstate Dragway, IL - Racing from 9am

September 30 - Drive Day

October 1 - Day Four, Midstate Dragway, IL Racing from 9am - 2pm.

October 2 - Day Five, Bonne Terre Drag Strip, MO Racing from 9am - 2pm.

October 3 - Day Six, Mo-Kan Dragway, MO Racing from 9am - 2pm.

Also, while on site, I ran into Brooks Fleharty of BMF Garage and we got to talking about The Circuit 2027 Racer Party’s Practice Tree Tournament and we worked out a deal to hav the BMF Automation Reaction Time Association chairs on site for the participants. This will absolutely elevate the party to legendary status.
